Greetings and Happy St. Patrick's day to all you Irish folks! I spent about an hour down at Winter Island in Salem Mass this afternoon. What a beautiful afternoon to shoot. I set up my camera with a telephoto lens on tripod and got as close to the water as I dared, I was trying to capture the motion of the water on the rocks. I used a slow shutter speed to try and give the water that almost vev=lvet look the really great photographers get. I was a tad disappointed with the results. I will upload an example or two. If anyone has suggestions please let me know.
BTW I think some of the issue with the 3rd shot is camera shake. I need to remember to use the self-timer or remote when I use a slow shutter speed.
ReplyDeleteHi John - Glad to see your blog. If I may, I have a few suggestions as this kind of photography is one of my favorites. I can't remember what equipment you use but what I do when shooting these shots with a slow shutter is to also use an aperture of at least f/11 or even f/16. This helps with sharpness as your DOF is not as important as your shutter. This also helps with getting a slower shutter. Using a remote (or a timer) does help if your hands are a little shakey. I usually hold my breath as well and don't hold the camera tight. (I find I do that when I'm not paying attention). I hope this help somewhat. Take care, Laura Sutton
ReplyDeleteThank you Laura. t does help indeed. I am open to any and all suggestions. Hope you find my future entries interesting. Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteJohn, these are splendid! Well, you know I love this sort of water shot. I think my favorite is the top one but they're all great.
